Budget Butterfly Centerpiece Ideas
Great For Wedding Table Decorations

There is something beautiful and graceful with butterflies, butterfly centerpieces included. It used to be that butterflies fly free and there was no way that one can source hundreds of butterflies to grace an occasion such as a wedding. Well, not anymore. There are butterfly farms and gardens where one can buy some either for populating a personal butterfly greenhouse or for use in parties most especially for weddings.

Butterflies in a wedding or any party for that matter bring cherished images of a fairy tale occasion. Instead of throwing rice after the wedding ceremonies, butterflies are released instead. It is certainly a joy to see hundreds of colorful butterflies fly out to the open to seek out new lives – a great analogy of the marriage itself.

There are many ways to weave butterflies into any wedding or party. One of the easiest and inexpensive ways to use butterfly is by making easy-to-do butterfly centerpieces. There is no need to source out real live butterflies as there are silk, feathers, sugar, helium, paraffin, wooden and plastic butterflies that you can use.

One idea is butterflies on a flower bed. Buy some silk butterflies from any craft store. Attach the silk butterfly on a florist wire. Make sure you cover the wire with a florist tape colored green. Buy a 6" styrofoam ball, and cut in into half. Cover the halved styrofoam ball with dry florist grass, flowers and leaves – sort of a garden patch for the butterflies. Stick 2 to 3 colorful silk butterflies into the garden patch and you have a unique butterfly centerpiece.

A variation for a children’s party is to stick sugar butterflies into cupcakes then arranged on a table.

For a more formal butterfly centerpiece, buy a fancy glass see-through shallow glass bowl, fill with colored water (by adding food color preferably the theme color), and fill it up with flower-shaped floating candles. Make sure the glass bowl is big enough to contain 3 to 4 floating candles. Attach a glittery silk butterfly on a wire and secure it in the bowl. You can do this by cutting a piece of styropore to the shape of the glass bowl. Glue the styropore on the glass’ bottom, and then stick the butterfly on wire. The styropore will be hidden by the colored water. Twist the butterfly’s wire this and that way for a more natural position. A variation is to fill up the glass bowl with butterfly floating candles then decorate the diameter of the glass bowl with dried flowers.

A less intricate way of doing butterfly centerpiece is buy sourcing canisters, painting them the color most applicable to your occasion and stamp them with butterflies. You can also choose to attach butterfly appliques. Buy fresh flowers good enough for the number of canisters that you have. Bunch flowers tightly then tie with wire and ribbons. Fill each decorated canister with water as the vase for the fresh flowers. A variation is to insert a butterfly on a wire into the flower arrangement.
