Easy Fruit Wedding Centerpiece Ideas
Great Inexpensive Edible Centerpieces
Choosing a fruit wedding centerpiece for your decorations is very popular, not only do they look stunning, they don't have to cost a fortune either.
Some tips before we start, the best fruit to use for a centerpiece are those that last, in other words it is best to avoid soft fruits like berries. Great fruits are lemons, limes, oranges, apples and pineapples. You can use the citrus fruits whole or cut into slices, using slices means you won't use as much fruit. Don't use cut up apple, as they go brown and that doesn't look great in the middle of a table! Try and find the best looking fruit for the least amount of money, look out for offers on fruit at your local supermarket or talk to a local fruit and veg supplier to see if they can get you a good deal. If you are using caterers for your wedding then ask them if they can get you boxes of fruit to use in your centerpieces, it will work out loads cheaper than if you bought small bags yourself.
Fruit centerpieces need to be contained otherwise they roll about! You will need either a platter, a bowl, or a glass vase to start designing your wedding centerpieces. If you are having a contemporary theme to your wedding then a platter or a vase will work best, keep the bowls for more traditional displays unless you can find some funky bowls that match with your colors or your theme.Piles of fruit on a platter is great for a Roman banquet feel and to add more glamour you could add some sparkle to the fruit. Do this with either edible gold leaf and glitter - seriously you can buy it! A more traditional way is to use egg white as the glue and then sprinkle sugar on the top. To keep your fruit in the same place you will need to secure them together with toothpicks, start with the bottom layer and work up, make sure you hide the toothpicks! A very fresh modern fruit wedding centerpiece is to use lemons and limes, have them piled in clear glass vases as it looks stunning. If your tables are long then you could have the fruit in a line down the table, simple and beautiful. You can also use the fruit as extra decoration in a vase of flowers, have the fruit in the water and then add the flowers. You could always use floating candles instead of the fruit if you have a shallow bowl.
