Silk Flower Centerpieces
A Great Long Lasting Floral Centerpiece
Silk flower centerpieces are no longer the cheap and tacky creations of the seventies, now silk flower companies spend a fortune on making their silk flowers look almost better than the real thing! Plus they are great as they last for ages, if you remember to dust them and they are easy to transport.
The new realistic silk flowers can be expensive but you can resell them, if you were looking to use silk flowers for your wedding flower centerpiece you could resell all of the table decorations after. You never know you may even end up making a profit! Silk flowers are cheaper if you buy in bulk, which if you are looking to make several centerpieces this could be the way to go. And while we are on the subject of weddings silk flowers are great if you want to make all of your wedding decorations in advance, if you want to use a flower that is not in season and not at its best, plus they are perfect for destination weddings. Silk flowers don't wilt and they are easier to transport in your suitcase than fresh flowers. You can buy silk flower decorations already made, this is a great idea if you are not so great at flower arranging but it will cost you, as you are paying for their expertise as well as the flowers.
Making your own floral centerpieces with silk flowers is fairly easy as long as you are careful with the flowers. You will need a pot or vase, the silk flowers, wire cutters, scissors and some dry foam or oasis. Cut your dry foam to fit into your vase or pot, you can cut the foam with a normal kitchen knife. Next start with your largest silk flowers and place those in the center and the sides, when you have those in position you can then add the smaller flowers and foliage. To make your silk flower centerpiece more unique and personal think about adding non-floral pieces. It could be a mini pumpkin for a fall display, shells for a beach themed centerpiece, teddy bears for a baby shower. You can secure these in place with florist wire or pins.
If making a large silk flower centerpiece sounds a bit scarey and a bit too expensive then create your centerpieces with one large headed flower, Hydrangeas are great for this and they are very popular for a minimilistic flower centerpiece. One Hydrangea, one vase per table and your centerpieces would be finished, what could be simpler than that?
